Effect of growth regulators on cherelle wilt in cacao, Theobroma cacao L.

Benzyladenine (BA), gibberellic acid (GA3) and indole acetic (IAA) were applied singly and in various combinations to about five weeks old cherelles of nine year old "Upper Amazon" cacao plants at the Cacao Progeny Orchard, Charmady, Karnataka. The incidence of cherelle wilt was significantly influenced by various growth regulators. Treatment with BA at 1 ppm+IAA at 200 ppm+GA3 at 400 ppm reduced the cherelle wilt to 47 per cent as compared to 96 per cent in control. Second application of these growth regulators 15 days after the first, further reduced cherelle wilt significantly as compared to single application. The fresh weight and number of beans per pod were also significantly increased by IAA at 200 ppm and GA3 at 400 ppm respectively
