Primary test of some cacao clones

A primary test of three clone series of cacao (Theobroma cacao L.): GC, DRC and KWC has been conducted at Kaliwining Experimental Garden between 1956 and 1970. Many of the clones tested have shown a comparable or an improved yielding capacity over that of the standard clone DR 2, which was used as control. It may be noted that the standard clone has been recommended for large scale planting since 1931. The numbers of the clonal series which appear promising are DRC 2, 6, 9, 13, 15, 16; KWC 1, 2, 5, 6, 7; GC 1, 2, 7. Commercial testing should now be undertaken to determine which clones of the series can be recommended to planters
