Tipos morfológicos de Phytophthora palmivora no Brasil

During a survey of Phytophthora palmivora (Butler) Butler in three cocoa growing areas of Brazil, two morphological forms were identified; MF1 having sporangia with short pedicels (minor 5 millimicron long) and MF4 which has sporangia with long pedicels (major 15 millimicron long). Both forms were found in isolates from Amazonia and the State of Bahia, while those from the State of Espirito Santo were only MF4. Isolates from rubber and black pepper from Amazonia and Bahia were identified as MF4, those from black pepper from Bahia producing sporangia with extremely long pedicels (major 100 millimicron long). Mating type experiments showed that MF1 isolates were of the A2 compatibility type and MF4 isolates of the A1 compatibility type. Those from Amazonia did not produced oospores
