Relaciones entre clones de los principales complejos genéticos de Theobroma cacao determinados mediante propiedades hídricas de limbos foliares

With the purpose of ordering a number of genetic groups of Theobroma cacao in a hydric ecocline, the values of several hydric leaf parameters were determined for a total of nine clonal seedling progenies. The hydric parameters used were: surface development, potential hydration, degree of succulence, and degree of sclerophyll. These parameters involve several relationships between surfaces, dry and fresh weights of leaves. Progenies of the following clones were used: of Amazon origin: Nacional 1, SPA-7, and Pound 12; of Criollo origin: Mexicano de Tabasco, Porcelana 6, and SUG-84; of Trinitario origin: ICS-1, UF-668, and R-2. It was found that Amazon clones show a relative tendency to xeromorphism and those of Criollo and Trinitario origins are more hygrophytic. Clones of Trinitario origin, resulting from crosses of Amazon and Criollo progenies have a behavior close to that of Criollos which in turn implies more genetical contribution of the criollos. The groupings made on the basis of hydric ecocline correspond to clones sharing the same ecological areas of origin
