Influence des apports fractionnés d'engrais et de la densité de plantation sur la croissance et la production des jeunes cacaoyers

An experiment was carried out on upper Amazon cacao planted in 1964 on a sandy soil at Bingerville. The fertilizers were applied from planting time using the mixture 13.10.15. There were three treatments: (1) control, no fertilizer. (2) 600 kg of fertilizer in 2 applications per year. (3) 600 kg of fertilizer in 6 applications per year. In the first two harvests, 6 applications per year gave the best results. This gave a profit of 20.000 frs CFA per hectare, compared with a loss of 16.000 frs CFA with 2 applications. In the third season, there were no significant differences. The formula was then changed to 12.5.20 at 900 kilos kg/ha/yr. In the fourth season (1970-71) there was no gain or loss using 6 applications, but a loss with only two. With regard to spacing, the yield per ha with 1320 trees per ha, is higher than with 1600 or 2000 trees per ha. No interaction was found between fertilizer and spacing
