Crop tolerance and mixed weed control in cocoa with Basta
Basta was sprayed on three and five month-old cocoa seedlings planted in polybags by three different methods; stem application only, application to stem and lower leaves, and application overhead. In the first method, product concentrations of at least 2 per cent were well-tolerated, in the other methods stronger phytotoxic symptoms were observed. In weed control trials in young cocoa plantations, Basta at 1.5 to 2.5 litres per hectare gave longer lasting control especially of Paspalum conjugatum and Paspalum commersonii as compared to Paraquat at 2.8 litres per hectare or hand-weeding
