Acumulación de materia seca y micronutrimentos de dos cultivares de yuca (Manihot esculenta Crantz)

This paper deals with the results obtained in the determination of dry matter and macronutrients in cassava setts in several periods of the life cycle of the plant. It was shown that setts had a three fold increase in dry matter till the end of the life cycle; accumulation started with the beginning of tuberization; macronutrient accumulation was similar in both cultivars used (Branca de Santa Catarina and IAC—Mantiqueira); with the exception of P and Ca all of them after an initial decrease. followed approximately the curve of dry matter production Nitrogen was the element whose content had most increased. It is suggested that the amounts of nutrients stored in the cassava setts should be taken into account when the requirements of the whole plant are estimated. The following average quantities in kg/ha, corresponding to a population of 16 666 plants, were found in the organ analysed: N = 14 0; P = 0 6; K = 3 8; Ca = 6 8; Mg = 2 0; and S= 0 4.
