At the kind invitation of the Argentinian Government, the Seminar was held in La Plata. Twelve lecturers, four experts, 53 participants and 23 observers specialized in relevant disciplines from 20 countries and five international organizations participated as below: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela; Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Intern-American Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IICA), United Nations (UN), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Apart from the opening and closing ceremonies, the Seminar combined working sessions dealing with problem analyses, watershed behaviour, effect of land use and management, manipulations on water yield and quality, watershed rehabilitation, institutional aspects of watershed management, planning and project formulation, with a study tour. The study tour served to observe the conditions and review activities already undertaken within a 5000 km linear transect running through the arid and humid pampas, tropical and sub-tropical regions within the vertical range from La Plata up to Bariloche. The multidisciplinary nature of watershed management was underlined, and an integrated approach, with due emphasis on socio-economic aspects, and close cooperation of various government agencies activities under a coordinating body, were the most important elements on which recommendations were formulated
