Forestry development and research project, Brazil. Inventories for Amazonian forestry development
A survey is made of the inventory information which is available on the forests of the Amazon. On basis of the methodology used, an evaluation is made of the usefulness, for forestry development, of the existing inventory information. An analysis is made to assess the additional information requirements for the Amazon forest resources. Three major types of requirements are distinguished: inventories for reconnaissance, pre-investment and management. According to the three objectives, major lines of action are singled out. A set of recommendations formulated priorities for the inventory programme. The appendices contain additional details on important technical aspects aiming at methodological improvement of existing techniques.
