Cacao-plátano-madera: la diversificación agroforestal como herramienta para manejar variabilidad en precios de productos agrícolas :

Despite the lack of rigorous empirical support, a great body of theory in ecology, economics, and agricultural sciences suggest that diversified systems help to mitigate the effects of environmental (biophysical or economic) variability. In this study, the conceptual framework relating price variability and the use of diversified agroforestry systems (with cacao, Theobroma cacao, plantains, Musa AAB, and the timber tree Laurel, Cordia alliodora) is presented. Different production preferences (in terms of the fractional area allocated to either plantain or cacao) are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the identification of the most prominent problems in the management of each system.
