Keeping goats healthy is a major part of the production job of farmers related with this grazing ruminant. The present work is the result of studies of official information, discussions with Veterinarians and farmers on the entire country. The effort has been done to present a national information about diseases of goats in Chile. I. PARASITES DISEASES: a) External parasites: Pediculosis (9 percent prevalence); Goat Scabie (2 percent); Dermatomicosis (0.5 percent). b) Internal parasites: Gastrointestinal worms (10 percent); Lungworms (0.1 percent); Tapeworms (0.05 percent); Hidatidosis (2 percent); Liverflukes (5 percent); Head Grubs (0.1 percent). II. INFECTO-CONTAGIOUS DISEASES: a) Virus agents: Contagious ecthyma (1.6 prevalence); Foot and Mouth Disease (Chile is FREE after 1975); Warts (0.7 percent). b) Bacteria agents: Enterotoxemia (2 percent); Johne's disease (0.4 percent); Foot Rot (1.2 percent); Caseous lymphadenitis (1.9 percent); Anthrax (0.1 percent); Infectious Keratoconjunctivitis (2.2 percent); Salmonellosis (0.1 percent); Brucellosis (0.01 percent). III. METABOLIC DISEASES: Ketosis (0.02 percent); Milk Fever (0.5 percent). IV. VARIOUS DISEASES: Metritis (0.3 percent); Mastitis (1.8 percent); Traumatic Testiculitis (0.7 percent); Pneumonia (3 percent); Navel Ill (2 percent); Scours (3 percent); Bloat (0.02 percent); Indigestion (1.3 percent). V. MINERAL DEFICIENCIES: Calcium (2 percent); Phosphorus (2 percent); Iron (1 percent); Vitamin deficiencies A-D (3 percent). VI. INTOXICATIONS BY PLANTS: Nitrates and Nitrites (1 percent); Hydrogen cyanides (1 percent). VII. CONGENITAL UNDESIRABLE DEFECTS: Hermaphrodism (3 percent); Testicular hypoplasia (1 percent); Inherited double teats (1.8 percent); Mandibular Prognatism (0.6 percent)
