Quarantine regulations of seed imports at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics

Quarantine regulations are described for import of seeds of sorghum, pearl millet, pigeon-pea, chickpea and groundnut and vegetative groundnut material into India. All material, after careful examination and treatment, is planted for one generation in a post-entry quarantine isolation area established in the southeastern corner of ICRISAT research farm. A total of 77,959 samples of seed and vegetative material of these crops imported from 67 countries in Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and Australia have been cleared through Indian quarantine and released to ICRISAT for its experimental work during the last five years
