Appraising poultry enterprises for profitability: a manual for potential investors
This manual was originally conceived, designed and written to serve as a decision making tool for investment officers at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) who are responsible for appraising projects. This edition has been updated and revised to appeal to a broader audience. Correct application of the manual will enable the user to conduct preliminary evaluation of the economic and financial feasibility of a prospective integrated broiler operation in a developing country with a five-to-ten working day on-site investigation. Although it has been assumed that an in-depth feasibility study would be required before the project could be approved and financed, the information compiled through effective application of this manual should be sufficient to make a preliminary decision regarding the viability of a proposed poultry project. The manual details the steps needed to determine the production costs and the fixed asset and working capital requirements of a broiler operation. It includes a section on market analysis and accurate forecasting of market prices and another section on the management of integrated broiler operations. Technical annexes contain specifications of broiler and breeder houses, a summary of production costs and a glossary
