Studies on detection of leptospira and brucella antibodies in imported frozen meat and live slaughter cattle
Muscle-tissue extract from 700 samples of imported frozen Argentinian beef, and from 300 samples of imported frozen Rumanian pig's hearts was examined for antibodies against Leptospira. Thirteen samples were found to be suspect. Muscle-tissue extract from 503 samples of Argentinian beef was also examined for Brucella by means of the Haematoxylincolor-test. Two samples were found to be positive. Blood serum from Danish cows and sows was examined for Brucella antibodies by means of the slow-agglutination test. No positive reactors were recorded. Thirty-six guinea pigs were experimentally infected with Brucella abortus "strain 1119". Muscle-tissue extract was kept at a temperature of -20 grades C for 8 weeks and examined periodically. A decline in the level of antibodies could be demonstrated
