Avaliacao dos impactos socioeconomicos da pesquisa agropecuária

This paper summarize the major evaluation methods of socioeconomic impacts of agricultural research utilized in EMBRAPA over the last fifteen years, together with a brief description of the main applications. It also convers the new trends in agricultural research socioeconomic evaluation. Special reference is given to i) a computerized package applicable to any situation subject to quantitative evaluation; ii) the recommended approach to evaluate technologies directed to sustainable agriculture; iii) the need to develop methods specifically designed social impact evaluation and iv) the recommendations for the training of socioeconomists to face these new challenges. After reading this pape, it is hoped that the reader become acquainted with EMBRAPA's experiencie in socioeconomic impact evaluation, the methods utilized and the most important applications. Since this is a complex task, and EMBRAPA. is firmly committed to it, any suggestions for its improvement, and for future research topics will be welcome. (MV)
