Ecuador's competitiveness in forest products: some multi-country comparisons
Emergence of major sources of supplies of forest products around the world has increased concerns of forest products industries regarding international competitiveness. Because world markets are interrelated, trade affects the domestic timber resource situation in the U.S. as well, increasing the importance of capturing our best forest management opportunities. This paper discusses research methods for assessing competitiveness in forest products, applied to the case of Ecuador. A system for rating competitiveness factors in a multicountry context is developed. Data for particleboard production in Ecuador are compared to those in the U.S. South
