Agriculture of tomarrow. Greater productivity, efficiency, and diversity

The evolution of agriculture, specially in the last 50 ys, is traced and the directions for the next 50 yr are suggested. Recommnedations are made for concentrating research on renewable energy resources such as biological N fixation, exploiting advances in genetics and molecular biology to inccrease rates of photosynthesis and increase crop dry matter production, and reestablishing in cultivars the genetic diversity they require to withstand diseases, pests, and other stresses
