The compatibility status of clones descended from the Ecuador "nacional" in the CEPEC genebank

As a part of the process of characterizin the germplasm in the Cacao Research Center (CEPEC) genebank, determinations of the self-compatibility status of clones from these programmes present in the genebank were carried out and the cross-compatibility relationships determined for the self-incompatible clones. The EET clones were self-compatible except EET 59 and EET 103, which were self-incompatible but cross-compatible, indicating that they would possess different incompatibility alleles. With regard to the UF clones the picture is rather different UF 20, UF 36, UF 666 and UF 705 were self-incompatible and cross-incompatible among themselves and also cross-incompatible with EET 59. This shows that these UF clones possess the same incompatibility allele as EET 59 and confirms that they are descended from an Ecuadorian ancestor.
