Moisture content and germination of seeds of Virola koschnyi and Nectandra membranacea

The effect of loss of moisture was studied on the germination of seeds of Virola koschnyi and Nectandra membranacea. Seeds were collected at La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica, and stored in an air-conditioned room, with a mean relative humidity of 58 percent and temperature of 24 deg C. For both species, loss of moisture led to a considerable decrease in germination.
