Proporción de madera de duramen en árboles de Tectona grandis y Bombacopsis quinata

The definition of the rotation period for species of medium to fast growth should consider, besides the dimensional development of the trees, other important factors like wood quality. In this study differences in heartwood proportion between young and advanced aged trees of teak and pochote in several zones from Costa Rica are shown. Trees from different climatic zones of the country were selected trying to comprise young and advanced ages. In advanced aged teak in Costa Rica, it is possible to obtained heartwood volume percentages up to 60 percent approximately. In pochote, the heartwood formation is minimum at ages near to the suggested rotation periods.
