The ninth session of the Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) was held in Christ Church, Barbados, on 19 and 20 November 2018. The SAG considered the outcomes of the work carried out by various joint working groups in 2018 and their recommendations to WECAFC 17. The SAG also reviewed the status of the main fish stocks in Area 31 and discussed the Regional Caribbean Spiny Lobster (Panulirus argus) Fishery management plan, the status of implementation of the CLME+ Sub-project on the Flyingfish fishery and the Insurance needs and opportunities in the Caribbean fisheries sector. The SAG further was updated on WECAFC-FIRMS partnership and the Process towards the establishment of a Permanent Coordination Mechanism concerning the Consolidation of a regional framework for integrated ocean governance in the CLME+/WECAFC/Wider Caribbean region, and the activities of partner agencies in the region. A list of specific SAG recommendations for the attention of WECAFC 17 is included in the preface of the report.
