Regional standards for phytosanitary measures. Approval of irradiation facilities

In order for National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) to approve irradiation facilities used for phytosanitary purposes, a common framework to assess the effectiveness and ability of a facility to fulfill all the requirements for the irradiation of commodities is required. Endorsed by the twenty-eighth session of the Asia and Pacific Plant Protection Commission (APPPC) held in Jeju, Republic of Korea in September 2013, this standard provides elements of a quality management system that are the necessary minimum for the operation of an irradiation facility. Regional standards for phytosanitary measures are developed and adopted by the APPPC as part of the plant protection programme of the Commission's contracting parties to support regional harmonization and facilitate trade of commodities by member countries.
