FAO Aquaculture Newsletter: (articles)

This is the 52nd issue (2014) of the FAO Aquaculture Newsletter. It contains an editorial on FAO’s new strategic framework, and seven sessions on: (1) global/regional meetings such as the 34th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing; the 2nd Session of the Central Asian and Caucasus Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Commission; and the 5th Offshore Mariculture Conference. (2) Aquaculture strategies with an article on development of desert and arid lands aquaculture in Algeria. (3) Project updates/progress reports contain an update on South-South cooperation programme in Namibia; Milkfish fry collection and supply systems in Palau; Community-based mullet farming in Papua New Guinea; Progress on the establishment of the Micronesian Association for Sustainable Aquaculture (MASA); Community-based milkfish farming in the Kingdom of Tonga. (4) There are three thematic articles: Aquaculture future: an analysis; Value chain efficiency of the mud crab industry in Madagascar; Utilizing genetics to meet future demand for aquaculture products. (5) Training courses: the first on trout culture held in Turkey and the second on the use of risk analysis in aquaculture held in Croatia. The two last sections focus on new staff profile, and new aquaculture publications.
