Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission (APFIC). Regional overview of aquaculture trends in the Asia-Pacific Region 2014

The Asia-Pacific region is the world’s leader in total aquaculture production. In 2012 the region produced 58.5 million tones of aquaculture products, accounting for 89 percent of global aquaculture production and compromising more than 225 species and species groups. The region contributed 79 percent of the global aquaculture value for 2012, with an average annual growth rate of 6.4 percent per year from 2002 to 2012. The purpose of this document is to inform member countries of the current status of aquaculture production by species, commodity group, group, country and subregion, and of important trends in aquaculture development in Asia and the Pacific. Data tables are included as annexes to the report.
