Yaeres Pastoral Water Development and Supply, Lake Chad Basin Commission (flood plains, Cameroon, Chad). Project findings and recommendations

The project provided assistance to the Governments of Cameroon and Chad through the Lake Chad basin commission by executing a livestock water supply programme in the Yaeres area, enabling better utilization of existing fodder resources in the dry season. A mobile heavy machinery group has been set up and equipped and personnel has been trained in operating it for the execution of livestock water supply schemes. A network of livestock drinking water points has been established. These schemes have increased the production capacity of natural grazing areas in the Yaeres and improved their rational utilization by livestock through the exploitation of additional drinking water resources. Implementation period : October 1976 - December 1981. Project funding : UNDP, US$ 1,273,475
