Human influences in African pastureland environments: with special reference to the arid and semiarid pastoral regions of Eastern Africa

This book refers mainly to subsistence pastoralism in the semi-arid and arid communal grazing areas of Eastern Africa, in which ownership and management of livestock is not integrated in the management and use of plant communities. It analyses the influence of human society activities in pastoral environments - woody vegetation clearing, cultivating, seasonal movements - and the capacity of lands to support subsistence pastoral communities. Desireable directions of change are outlined
