The author claims that these arithmentic tables were "intended to facilitate the aprocess of calculating, by doing away with the most difficult and fatiguing portion of it, so that by using the tables the difficulties, such as error, realxation of mind, and loss of time ... "will be entirely removed"". Happy pre-computer times...1874...
