The Tonle Sap Great Lake: a pulse of life

This books has been prepared by a Belgium founded development project Participatory natural resource management in the Tonle Sap region. The project is implemented in the province of Siem Reap, Cambodia through FAO of the United Nations with an overall objective to establish responsible, productive and sustainable management of forest and fishery resources by local communities to meet local needs and to stimulate local development. Today there are now over 100000 hectares of forest or fishing grounds under protection and management as community fisheries by 116 villages. In the upland areas, there are now over 20000 hectares of protected forest managed by community of 84 villages. Significant progress has been made and the project will continue to work to enhance the capacity of provincial staff while strengthening the role of local communities for effective and sustainable management of natural resource.
