Production of commercial and fertile quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) eggs at the Technical University of Babahoyo.

In order to promote business skills in students of the Babahoyo Technical University -FACIAG, 100 eggs of Coturnix coturnix japonica were acquired to start an alternative poultry rearing system. The same ones that were incubated in automated equipment. To guarantee hatching, an embryodiagnosis was carried out, which allowed 61% of non-fertile eggs to be discarded. Of the 82% of verified eggs, 20 males and 9 females were born. To avoid consanguinity, 30 females and 10 adult males were acquired, after 12 days of adaptation, the% of laying was 4.3, increasing to 82.4% at the fifth week and the eggs had an average weight of 12 , 1 g. The feed conversion index (ICA) was 31.1 in the third week with constant egg production, increasing to 38.3 in the fourth week, decreasing to 34.1 in the fifth due to the entry of young females. The average weight of the fertile eggs selected for incubation was 11.78 g, resulting in 73.05% hatching. It is concluded that this project contributed to the development of skills in the productive management of quail, encouraging entrepreneurship in future professionals.
