Brazilian exports of pork and technical, sanitary and phytosanitary measures
The aim of this study is to characterize the evolution of technical, sanitary and phytosanitary measures imposed by the main pork importing countries between 2005 and 2015. In addition, the study aimed to verify the effects of these measures on Brazilian exports of pork. The results showed an increase in the number of notifications for both SPS and TBT. It was verified that the boom of these measures occurred in the years of 2009 to 2011. Using the gravity model, where the variables of distance, language, tariff equivalents and GDP were also inserted, it was possible to observe the aggregate effect of these measures, which, in general, negatively influence the trade of this product. The effects of the measures, considering their different objectives were also considered in one of the specifications of the gravity model and, what is observed, are ambiguous effects of the notifications according to their objectives.
