Strategies to reduce pesticide spray drift in vineyard, in Mendoza, Argentina

Vine is one of the most important crop of Mendoza. The integrated management of pests and diseases that this crop releases includes the spraying of pesticide products that generates drops that can pass through the cultivated land, impacting the surrounding environment. The objectives of this experiment were to provide knowledge about the behavior of drift produced by spraying pesticide in grapevines in Mendoza, Argentina, and to evaluate different strategies to reduce it. The results showed that, in a standard hydropneumatic spraying (Control treatment), 97.2% of the impacts recorded as drift are concentrated in the 10 m next to the sprayed row and that at 30 m from the sprayed row it is recorded 0.6% of the recorded impacts. With respect to the treatments evaluated as strategies to reduce drift, the treatment with the canceled axial fan has the greatest effect, with decreases in impacts.cm2 of 99.6% at 5 m, 95.1% at 20 m and 73, 2% at 30 m, compared to the Control treatment. Next in capacity to reduce drift are the half shade (used as a windbreak) treatments, with a reduction in exodrift at 5 m of 96% and Coadjuvant anti-drift with a reduction in drift of 94.4% at 20 m and 73.2% at 30 m from the spray row. We conclude that these technological strategies can reduce pesticide spray drift in grapevine in Mendoza, Argentina.
