Resistance mechanisms of soybean genotypes: non-preference test, of Anticarsia gemmatalis Hubner, 1818 (Lep.: Noctuidae)
Dual choice tests were performed in Londrina, PR, during 1988 and 1989 to evaluate feeding preference of Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) for soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) genotypes. Comparisons among six different lines, one cultivar and, three insect resistant introductions were made using standard cultivars, 'Davis', 'Bossier' and 'Santa Rosa' on three simultaneous tests. The lines BR82-12547, IAC74-2832 and the plant introductions 227687, 229358 and 274454 were rejected by the caterpillars, while lines BR79-15149 and GoBR83-37004 were preferred. The other genotypes (BR80-25896, 'IAC-100' and GoBR83-60040) did not differ from standards, in relation to caterpillar preference, based upon consumption index. Lines descending from introduced plants (PI) 229358 and PI 274454 showed better non-preference performance than those descending from PI 227687.
