Genetic effects of maize inbred lines resistance to Helminthosporium turcicum Pass

Two S3 maize inbreds, one resistant and the other susceptible to Helminthosporium turcicum, as well as their F1, F2 and backcrosses, were studied in optimal conditions for the development of the pathogen. The six families were evaluated in a randomized complete block experiment with four replications in Campinas, SP, Brazil. Data indicated that in this germoplasm, resistance to Helminthosporium turcicum was apparently of polygenic type with predominantly non-additive effects.
