Nerol oil as apple dormancy breaking agent

Experiments were held at Fraiburgo and Rio das Antas counties, in the State of Santa Catarina. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different concentrations of Nerol Oil alone and in combination with Thiourea (TU) plus Potassium Nitrate (KNO3), on the dormancy-break of apple cv. Golden Delicious (Malus domestica, Borkh). The parameters studied were flowering and bloom periods, percentage of lateral and terminal bud-break, number of flower cluster, fruit set, number of fruit, fruit production and average fruit weight. All the treatments advanced leaf and flower bud-break and shortened the flowering period. The percentage of lateral buds was more significant in the highest concentrations of Nerol Oil and the most important differences were observed in the second year application. The same was observed in relation to the number of flower cluster. The control plot presented a better fruit set than all the other treatments. The treatments had little influence in the number of fruits, fruit production and average fruit weight.
