Develapmenl, evalualian and release a! Guarani, an early maturity upland rico cultivar
The process ol seleclion of lhe line CNAx 095-BM 30-BM 9-28 was described and the resulta of the evaluations presenled. The lino originated from lhe cross 63-83/IAC 25 after two cycles of modified bulk (F2 and F3) followed by one cycle ol pedigree seleclion (F 4 ). Grain yield, leaf and neck blast were evalualed in prelirninary and advanced yield frials conducted in Iour brazilian states. The line overall grain yield rnean was 19.4°/, higher lhan thal of the check (IAC 165). For lhe slates of Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul the grain yield increase over lhe check was 17.7%, 22.7%, 26.6% and 7.3 0/., respedively. The me showed highcr leaf and neck biasl resislance. The line was agronomically described and comrnercialy released with the nane of Guarani.
