Leaf anatomy of Vallesia glabra (Apocynaceae), important species in frugivory

Giménez, Guadalupe; Patricia L. Albornoz. 2013. “Leaf anatomy of Vallesia glabra (Apocynaceae), important species in frugivory”. Lilloa 50 (1). Vallesia glabra (Cav.) Link, commonly known as “ancoche”, is a shrub or small tree from 1,50 to 3 m height. This species has medicinal and nutritional properties. It has a wide distribution in the north and center of Argentina. This work describes the leaf anatomy. Fresh material was fixed in FAA. Conventional histological techniques were used. The results show that the leaf is chartaceous, ovate of pinnate venation, camptodromous, eucamptodromous with dorsiventral structure, anfiestomatic and striated cuticle. The stomata are anomocytic and ciclocytic. In transversal section the petiole is sub-circular with simple trichomes, drusa shaped crystals and starch composed in the parenchyma that surrounds the central vascular bundle. It was also observed, the presence of non-articulated laticífers tubes in petiole and sheet. The morphoanatomical characters mentioned above are valid for the correct identification of this species.
