ESTRUCTURA Y SOMBRA DEL CAFETAL EN DOS LOTES DE LA FINCA LERIDA, ALTO QUIEL, BOQUETE

In order to evaluate the shade structure of the coffee plantation in lots four and five of Finca Lerida, Alto Quiel, Boquete, Province of Chiriqui, two sampling plots were established with an area of 10000 and 5800 square meters respectively; considering variables such as: tree vegetation structure, diversity of tree species ranging from 15 to 40 cm in diameter and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Tree species were evaluated: total height, basal area and crown diameter. The percentage of shade was obtained by the method of Werner (2009) using the concave densiometer, photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) was obtained with a quantum sensor, whose function is to measure the quality of light that stimulates growth of the plant. The results indicated that in lot four, 25 individuals of Inga vera Willd (guabo) were counted, with total height between 11.0 to 24.5 m, basal area with values of 0.02 to 0.11 m2 ha-1, the crown diameter of 6.25 to 12.80 m; in addition to four tree species of Citharexylum recurvatum Greenm (palomo), with a total height of 12 to 19 m, basal area of 0.02 to 0.05 m2 ha-1, the crown diameter of 4.2 to 8.8 m. In lot five, 30 Inga vera Willd individuals were registered; with total height in ranges from 6.5 to 20.0 m, basal area from 0.02 to 0.10 m2 ha-1 and crown diameter of 6.8 to 12.60 m. The photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), recorded in batch four, was 992.50 nanometers, corresponding to 28.9 percent shade. In batch five it was 865 nanometers with 68.9 percent shading.
