Composición botánica de la dieta del guanaco (Lama guanicoe) en dos ambientes contrastantes de Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

A analysis of faeces Ivas perf ormed to determine the hotanical composition of the diet of guanaco (Lama guanicoe) in the steppe and the forest-steppe ecotone of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, throughout a year. The species identifled were grouped according to growth habit into trees,forbs atid shrubs, gnisses, sedges juncaceae and ciperaceae) and lichens. In both study areas, constituted the most important group in the diet, with an annual a verage of 90% in the steppe and 38% in ecotone. In both areas, the principal genera of grasses identified were Festuca and Poa. Sedges, trees,forbs and shrubs were relatively important only in the ecotone. Diet trophic diversity was greater in the ecotone than in the steppe. Both areas showed a significant correlation between the diet of different seasons.
