Update of the richness of ticks of the genera 𝐼π‘₯π‘œπ‘‘π‘’π‘  and π΄π‘šπ‘π‘™π‘¦π‘œπ‘šπ‘šπ‘Ž (Ixodida: Ixodidae) in Mexico

In this work, the update of the taxonomic composition in Mexico of two genera belonging to the Ixodidae family is presented: 𝐼π‘₯π‘œπ‘‘π‘’π‘ Β and π΄π‘šπ‘π‘™π‘¦π‘œπ‘šπ‘šπ‘Ž. For this, a bibliographic search was carried out in electronic databases such as: BiDi-UNAM, Biological Sciences, Google Scholar and Zoological Record between 2007 and 2023. From this, 80 publications carried out in the last 16 years were obtained, and with these we integrated a list that represents the current state of knowledge of both genera. In this way, we can point out that a total of 28 species of the genus 𝐼π‘₯π‘œπ‘‘π‘’π‘ Β and 25 species of the genus π΄π‘šπ‘π‘™π‘¦π‘œπ‘šπ‘šπ‘ŽΒ are distributed in Mexico, finding that in this period three species of 𝐼π‘₯π‘œπ‘‘π‘’π‘  Β were recorded and one was eliminated from the list (𝐼π‘₯π‘œπ‘‘π‘’π‘  π‘™π‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘–π‘π‘Žπ‘‘π‘’ Neumann, 1899). In the case of π΄π‘šπ‘π‘™π‘¦π‘œπ‘šπ‘šπ‘Ž, one species less is counted than in previous counts, since π΄π‘šπ‘π‘™π‘¦π‘œπ‘šπ‘šπ‘Ž π‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘β„Žπ‘’π‘›π‘ π‘’ Price, 1959 was transferred to the genus π‘…π‘œπ‘π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘‘π‘ π‘–π‘π‘’π‘ . Β Regarding their host spectrum, 𝐼π‘₯π‘œπ‘‘π‘’π‘  species are mainly associated with mammals (15 families) and birds (seven families), while those of π΄π‘šπ‘π‘™π‘¦π‘œπ‘šπ‘šπ‘Ž have been found parasitizing 13 families of amphibians and reptiles, seven of birds and 21 of mammals. From a geographical point of view, 13 of the species included in  𝐼π‘₯π‘œπ‘‘π‘’π‘  are distributed in the Neotropical region, 11 in the Nearctic, and only four in both regions; On the other hand, nine species of Β π΄π‘šπ‘π‘™π‘¦π‘œπ‘šπ‘šπ‘Ž have been collected in the Neotropical region, one in the Nearctic, and 11 in both regions. π‘…π‘œπ‘π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘‘π‘ π‘–π‘π‘’π‘  π‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘β„Žπ‘’π‘›π‘ π‘’Β (Price, 1959) has only been found in association with one Nearctic reptile species. Ticks are one of the most studied groups within the Acari subclass; however, it must continue to achieve a full understanding of its classification, geographic and host distribution, as well as its phylogenetic relationships.
