Latin Americans in European projects: Asymmetries in international scientific cooperation

This article discusses the international scientific cooperation in a very specific sense: the cooperative activities between more developed contexts and semi-peripheral spaces. Therefore, the participation of Latin American research groups from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Colombia in the consortia financed by the 7th Framework Program of the European Union is analyzed. Through this analysis, we ask about the reasons for the increasingly active participation of Latin American groups, especially, the kind of work these groups carry out when they participate in international consortia, how the work is organized and distributed, and what the degrees of freedom for Latin American scientists are in an increasingly globalized world.
