The PISAC Program: Keys to an unprecedented experience for the social sciences in Argentina

The Research Program on Contemporary Argentine Society (PISAC) constitutes an unprecedented experience at the national level, both because of the importance of the actors involved, and because of the opportunities it generates to carry out studies with a national scope on current society. Initially proposed in 2009, its first phase known as PISAC I began to be executed in 2012 with the participation of hundreds of researchers from all over the country. More recently, within the framework of the calls made by the I+D+i Agency, the PISAC Covid-19 proposed to promote research projects linked to the characterization of the situation of Argentine society in the pandemic and post-pandemic. On the other hand, the MINCyT launched PISAC II, which aims to contribute to public policy decision-making and transfer results to competent bodies for its design and implementation. This paper describes this program and analyzes the three lines of work of PISAC I, as well as the impact of the recent PISAC Covid-19 and PISAC II initiatives.
