Use of Paico (Chenopodium ambrosioides) to reduce the parasitic load in goats

Anthelmintic plants offer alternative solutions to control parasites in livestock and have been the subject of studies in two successive EU projects, some plants such as paico contain alkaloid essential oils condensed in their leaves and stems. These can reduce the worm load. The objective of the study was to test the anthelmintic effect of (Chenopodium ambrosioides), from a solution prepared from it. For this study, 10 goats of the Saanen breed were used, with an average of 12 months and ±17 kg, which were divided into two groups of five, group 1 which was used as test animals, a first dose of 40 ml/animal and group 2 remained as a control group, without any treatment, a second dose was repeated (fifteen days later) of 50 ml/animal for group 1. To control the reduction of the parasite load, quantitative analysis were carried out by the MacMaster technique, before performing the treatment and after it. As a result of the research, a reduction in the egg count per grams of fecal matter was observed, so it can be concluded that the use of paico, as an alternative antiparasitic, is a good option, according to the results presented in this study.
