Association of the feline gingivostomatitis complex with the feline immunodeficiency virus and the feline leukemia virus

The present study was carried out in order to determine the relationship between the FelineGingivitis Stomatitis Complex (CGEF) and the infections caused by the feline immunodeficiency virus(FIV) and the feline leukemia virus (FeLV). For this purpose 22 animals of the feline species were used,without distinction of race, sex or age, with or without symptoms of Feline Gingivitis Stomatitis Complexthat came to the Clínica Veterinaria Demovet of the City of Asunción and the Veterinary Hospital from theDepartment of Veterinary Clinics of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the National University ofAsunción, with oral masses. The animals were subdued to anesthesia and biopsy of the masses, inaddition to serological sampling for feline immunodeficiency (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV). Theresults obtained showed that 13 felines presented CGEF components by histopathology, and the serologyshowed 6 positives to FIV and 2 to FeLV, finding no association between the pathologies studied (p =0.4861).
