From in-person to virtual: Mutations of a graduate course on transmission electron microscopy in biological sciences

The current work describes the modifications implemented in the graduate course on transmission electron microscopy applied to biological sciences (Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, National University of La Plata). The course is aimed at graduate students of Veterinary Sciences and other related fields. From in-person to blended-learning and finally, to a completely virtual modality, the program in this course was modified, using different digital resources, and implementing different strategies which resulted in changes in the organization of contents, activities, evaluation, and teacher roles, as well as the introduction of a workshop. Making the switch from in-person to a blended modality prior to 2020 allowed us to provide a better response to the pandemic disruption, while course mutations resulted in positive outcomes facing the challenge of emergency remote teaching. This pedagogical experience was enriching and has the potential to inspire other higher education teachers interested in exploring online or virtual education.
