Records of the andean bear Tremarctos ornatus (Carnivora: Ursidae) in the Southern Subandino of Bolivia

In this note, four records documented by photographs of the presence of the Andean bear (Tremarctos ornatus) are reported in the Southern Sub-Andean of Bolivia within the limits of the Carrasco-Amboró-Tariquía Andean Bear Conservation Units (UCO) proposed for Bolivia by Wallace et al. (2014). In addition, different records of the presence of the Andean bear were documented through interviews with local residents and analysis of records of observations of Shell Bolivia workers during hydrocarbon prospecting studies carried out in the departments of Tarija and Chuquisaca between 2013 and 2018. We also recorded oral accounts of the Guaraní culture referring to the perception, attitude and worldview patterns of this community in relation to the Andean bear. Our records contribute to strengthening the information on the distribution of the species in southern Bolivia.
