Trichoptera (Insecta) from the collection of the Instituto de Biodiversidad Neotropical (IBN-CONICET-UNT), Tucumán, Argentina

Biological Collections are extremely important for understanding the changes that occur in natural systems. The Neotropical Biodiversity Institute (IBN) has a collection of insects associated with the Yungas Mountain rivers of more than 30 years, scientifically supported by studies on systematics and taxonomy of various orders of insects. Specifically, caddisflies are considered good indicators of water quality. The objective of this work is to give visibility to the IBN collection and accessibility to the complete data set of caddisflies through free access portals. As a result, the collection represented over 50% of the species described for the study area. The great proportion of the records (38%) were collected between 500 and 1000 m a.s.l. and come from the years 1999 to 2006. The records cover 14 of 30 protected areas, with the Calilegua National Park being the richest area (19 spp.). Three large areas with few records are identified for future sampling efforts.
