Geochemistry of the Re-Os in molybdenite method and its application in a deposit from the Paiman range (La Rioja, Argentina): Acta geológica lilloana 22 (1-2): 2010

The generalities of the Re-Os in molybdenite method are presented, together with a model age using this method in a small mineralization from the Famatina System, La Rioja province, is presented too. The Re-Os in molybdenite geochronological method allows obtaining the age of the ore-minerals or other lithologies whose paragenesis contains this mineral. The method requires using the general geochronology formula for which it is necessary to know the Re and Os contents in the molybdenite. The method can be considered reliable by the accuracy of the obtained age and because the Re-Os system remains closed during deformational and thermal event. The W-Mo hydrothermal Angulos deposit in the eastern sector of the Famatina System has an age of 470-465 Ma using the Re-Os in molybdenite method. According to the literature, this is the first result obtained in an ore-mineral in the Famatina System.
