Comparison of the healing time between N-butyl cyanoacrylate and polyglycolic acid in canines subjected to sterilization

The objective of this study was to compare the N-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBC) and polyglycolic acid (AC) in tissue closure in canines subjected to sterilization operations. An observational, comparative and descriptive study was conducted in a population of 80 living dogs (Canis familiaris). The animals were divided into 4 groups of 20 dogs each: The first group, consisted of females using NBC. The second group, by males who received NBC. The third group, by females using AC as skin suture. And the fourth group, was conformed by males using AC as a means of skin suture. The surgical technique in females was oforosalpingohysterectomy and in male orchiectomy. The closing time was statistically (p < 0.05) lower in the groups of diseases and females with the NBC compared with the two groups treated with AC. It is concluded that NBC is a safe and effective material as a means of tissue fixation in both surgical techniques, decreasing the days of closure and recovery.
