Evaluation of the removal of an azo dye on corncob by statistical design
In the adsorption methodology, low cost, wide availability and favorable environmental impact adsorbents have been investigated for the removal of dissolved dyes. This study evaluated the removal of azo dye tartrazine through adsorption on agricultural waste corncob under batch system. The studied variables included adsorbent dosage, dye concentration and contact time. The pH value, temperature, agitation and particle size remained constant. The dye content was quantified by UV-Visible spectrophotometry. Two factorial design 2^3 with and without central point were implemented and then a central composite surface design was used for process optimization, which statistical model showed a suitable adjustment coefficient (R^2 = 0.9897) and allowed to achieve a removal of 99.1% at initial concentration of dye 20.0 mg L^-1, adsorbent dosage of 19.6 g L^-1 and contact time of 123 minutes, pointing out that the corncob is a good option of alternatives adsorbents for the removal of dyes.
