Artrópodos hematófagos del Río Raposo, Valle, Colombia: IV – Psychodidae

Using human bait and ligth traps a variety of haematophagous arthropods has been collected in different rural areas of Buenaventura (Raposo River, Taparalito on the Anchicayá River, Hogar de Niños and Palmeras del Pacífico). The purpose of this study was to obtain a better knowledge of the entomological fauna of the Pacific Lowlands and to search for arbovirusin the arthropods studied. The genus Lutzomyia is represented in our findings by 19 named species and by at least 3 species which are still under study. Of the former 19 species 5 had been previously reported in Colombia; the other 14 species constitute new records for this country. Among the human biting specimens it has been possible to identify L. flaviscutellata; hartmanni, panamensis, paraensis, trapidoi and ylephiletrix. From the material processed for arbovirus, isolations were made on seven different occasions.
